I use Crafty under Windows and Linux. It plays the same under both.

Bob uses Xboard, the linux counter-part to Winboard. There is virtually no
difference.

Crafty 19.13 is a pretty decent version, but I always use the latest version
regardless of strength. I like to see how the newer additions perform.
