I would not have thought it was possible to generate an EGT-part at a time, assuming that each part corresponds to a continuous zone of the index-range. I suppose you might use just one part, but it would be a frustrating exercise. With DTZ == "Depth to (move count) zeroing move", i.e. depth to pawn-push and/or capture and/or mate ... there is an idea (not implemented generically yet) to generate DTZ EGTs in 'slices', each slice corresponding to a fixed formation of the Pawns. The advantage of this is that a 'DTZ generation' becomes in effect a succession of 'DTC generations' which can utilise the bitmaps used by Eugene Nalimov in his 'DTM generations'. The idea was used by Peter Karrer after the Kasparov-World game in generating KQQKQP and KQPKQP~ (DTM), see the ICGA Journal v23.2 pp 75-84. g
