As the game neared a seeming inevitable draw. The players would either flip a coin to determine which one should resign or they would engage in a battle to determine who must be compelled to resign to avoid playing the otherwise forced drawing move. Needless to say, there would be no incentive to claim a draw by 3-fold rep or the 50-move rule. I think you can consign this idea to your half-baked file.
