I wasn't certain, but thought it would work the way you describe. Does the weight of the piece have any effect on this? All of the squares do recognize when a piece is placed on it, so it isn't the board that is the problem. I can get an entire new set of Saitek pieces for this board for $99, but that takes this $15 Saitek President out of the bargain category and into just a decent price category. :-) Dick Schneiders
