Also, be sure to monitor your hardware temperatures. When chess software is
calculating with near 100% processor usage and lots of hard drive access of
tablebases, things can get too hot. That can cause the system to stop working by
tripping a fail-safe mechanism somewhere. I had to put a couple of extra fans in
my computer case to keep it cool enough. If you don't have a temperature
monitoring utility, try Computer-Sensor in the Everest freeware at
http://www.lavalys.com/
