The Fidelity model CC7 had a humorous feature. That model came with an integral chess board but was not a press sensory machine. Moves were entered with the built-in keypad; there were two windows to display the to and from squares in computer algebraic. Whenever the computer was "thinking," the windows would display red lights in such a way as to suggest the machine was, in fact, thinking. Whenever the machine was faced with imminent checkmate the display windows would start flickering in an erratic manner, as if to suggest the machine was at a complete loss for words. After a moment or two of this seeming electronic consternation, the computer would flash its admission of defeat. It was a cute illusion but I still wonder if the illusion was intentional.
