a nice memory

the idea of the computer displaying some feeling or emotion is one that has
long held some fascination for me personally and for manufacturers in general

the Novag Robot released in 1982 and the only chess computer ever released to
utilize a Robotic Arm, actually had an "emotions" feature
when activated the machine would try to distract the player while he was on the
move
suddenly and without warning lights would flash, beeps would sound and the
Robotic arm would make random unexpected movements, sometimes hovering over the
opponents piece as if ready to touch it

if the Robot won ,it/he would beep gleefully and raise its arm in glorious
triumph
when in a losing position ,the arm would crawl across across the board and low
sad pitiful tones could be heard

and when finally faced with checkmate the robot has been known to take a
dangerously close swipe at the opponent

Emotional Regards
Steve
