Depends on what you want:

(a) Fedora - Bleeding edge, Clean user interface, Consistent user interface for
both KDE and Gnome, A bit Low on software, No longer carries older software
(like xboard). Not the stablest of distributions.
PS: The xmms player bundled with Fedora by default can not play mp3 files. You
may have to download a plugin for that :P

(b) SuSe - Not so bleeding edge, Messy user interface, KDE user interface more
polished (as SuSE favours KDE), _all the linux software in the world you may
ever want_, Fairly stable. Since is comes with a lots of stuff, you are less
likely to have to fiddle with it.

(c) Mandrake - I don't have first hand experience, but is supposed to be easy to
learn using.

Hope that helps.
