Depends on what you want: (a) Fedora - Bleeding edge, Clean user interface, Consistent user interface for both KDE and Gnome, A bit Low on software, No longer carries older software (like xboard). Not the stablest of distributions. PS: The xmms player bundled with Fedora by default can not play mp3 files. You may have to download a plugin for that :P (b) SuSe - Not so bleeding edge, Messy user interface, KDE user interface more polished (as SuSE favours KDE), _all the linux software in the world you may ever want_, Fairly stable. Since is comes with a lots of stuff, you are less likely to have to fiddle with it. (c) Mandrake - I don't have first hand experience, but is supposed to be easy to learn using. Hope that helps.
