Thanks a lot for the replies. Based on the replies I have narrowed my options to two: Gentoo and SUSE. It seems (again, based on replies) that Gentoo is more efficient, but I'm mainly concerned that installing it might be messy. I have some decent experience on Unix, but haven't installed a Linux machine before, and so I'm afraid the setup process of Gentoo might be too harsh for my blood. Is it really a complicated process to set Gentoo up and working?! Regarding SUSE, I'm downloading its 9.2 Live CD to give it a test...
