Two very different things! Special-mate means that Chest finds a mate in 19 under the given parameters. There MIGHT be a shorter solution which however will only be found when using less restrictive parameters. So the only way to be really sure is to use the brute-force approach (normal mode), which unfortunately is not practible for longer mates. Martin
