Hi Heinz,

I am not sure we are understanding each other correctly. If it is not clear,
let me emphasize that you in my opinion has done nothing wrong in this
discussion. On the contrary, you are the one who first provided the evidence,
in form of your test positions and the links to the discussion at
Schachwerkstatt.
Your contributions to this thread have been very valuable.

What I criticized (probably a bit too harshly) was the way Karl-Heinz started
this thread, by stating bluntly that Toga was a clone, without mentioning the
discussion at Schachwerkstatt or giving any other information about how he
arrived at his conclusion. In the light of the information we now have, it
seems
clear that Toga indeed is a clone. But at the time the thread was started, most
of this information was not available for the members of this forum. Most
of the readers of CCC do not understand German, and even many of those
among us who do rarely read Schachwerkstatt.

I (and all other engine authors, I am sure) greatly appreciate that you and
other testers are skeptical towards new and unexpectedly strong engines,
and that you do some work in order to determine whether it is likely to be
a clone. I also understand perfectly well that you don't want to spend lots
of time testing an engine which you consider suspect. But we need to
discuss (probably in a separate thread, here or in the Winboard forum)
and agree upon the correct procedure to follow when you encounter a
suspect engine.
