Hallo Reinhard,

It does not get true the more often you tell this, Reinhard. You can use always
"O-O" and "O-O-O" in Winboard for castling. Not necessary to differentiate
here... I know that you do not like the variant system in WinBoard -> Anyway I
do not see it as a real problem.

WinBoard supports via ICS way more variants then any other protocol... e.g.
losers chess, crazyhouse, bughouse etc. -> You can not pass that via a FEN
string.

Of course you are right in case of FRC and shuffle chess -> and it would be a
nice addition to the WinBoard protocol once in the future because your addition
to the FEN-standard is really nice and easy. But for other chess variants the
variant command in WinBoard is definitely something good to have.

This is also part of the WinBoard protocol... The engine can tell the GUI which
variants it can play. Also FRC is still not really part of the UCI-standard ->
but there is some hope - Stefan told me that the ShredderClassic GUI will be FRC
ready until Mainz...

Anyway, maybe my own GUI will be until then also FRC ready. Is there a page at
your homepage where you exactly explain your additions to the FEN -> IMO this is
some kind of standard and when I will implement this I will of course use what
is already there instead of creating a new standard.

Greets, Thomas

This is a point of view... But I do not want to get the english speaking people
here out of the discussion... and it is somehow common sense that most
understand and write english. Anyway there is IMO nothing bad with writing
german as well -> As I would also tolerate french, spanish, portuguese, indian,
italian or chinese or whatever... But then I would be out of discussion...
