Not that Kasparov is a saint, but I have seen him turn away from money.  After
the Chernobyl disaster, Kasparov and Karpov both agreed to donate all of their
prize money (from their ongoing World Championship match) to the Chernobyl
relief efforts - - it was a big sum too.  Also, Kasparov has made charitable
contributions very quietly to various programs.  I agree, however, that he has
probably not burnt his bridges behind himself, and he might be tempted to return
for a variety of reasons.
