You could give CDB a try. (http://reality.sgi.com/pmk_craypark/cdb.html)
I have been planning to that for a long time now but haven't done it yet...

I'm very satisified with my code for book learning but not for the book itself
and it's possible to use CDB as a book and that would make it easy to create and
analyze books.
I'm not sure about the performance however.

If you try it please tell us (or me) about yor results!
