I would say the Athlon 64 3500. It will outperform the dual on all chess
programs except the "Deep" ones, and it will be very close on those. A dual
2800+ does about 700kns with Shredder 8. Shredder 8 does about 500kns on my
Athlon 64 3300+. You might get 525-550 avg on the 3500+, and maybe less than 600
on the dual 2000+. All the non deep programs will be far better on the 3500+,
and you will be 64-bit ready for the future.
