Glad Chessmaster helped! I _have_ been learning my openings. The game above is the Sicilian Defence:Classical System(B85). In combination with SCID and CM, I am learning so much. I have been using CM since 5500, but more recently got into opening training with CM9000, and when I bought CM10K I really got into it. (I got it incredibly cheap at FutureShop. I think it was miss tagged :)) The tutorials are absolutely fantastic and without a doubt helped in the main areas that I was struggling. I find Josh Waitzkin's tutorials go by pretty fast, so I had to listen to them a few times to fully understand what he was teaching. The default tutorials from the CM interface are _very_ detailed. I liked the ones where you learn the forks and pins. Those are killers in games, and have actually found some where before I would have made a useless losing move. When playing online I was getting killed due to opening selection. I didn't know how to defend against almost everything, and never really had a plan for the game. This is where CM helped emmensely. Since I learned more openings, know how to plan an attack, and even "proper" capturing methods (capturing towards the center whenever possible), I am a _much_ more improved player. As it says.. middle pawns first, then knights before bishops, castle as soon as possible, and make your plan. Amazing how well the basics apply well into the endgame :) I have my son training with it now. We play a little weekly game with no time limit. We just let each other know when a move has been played so the other can think about it for a while. Sometimes there is no moves for days because he is playing the PS2 or tormenting his little brother :) Peter
