XBoard should work fine and xboard-compatible engines (Crafty for example) but
for Chess Tiger I think you'd have to try an emulator like Wine and I am not
sure it would work. I haven't attempted it myself.

OpenOffice runs under FreeBSD (http://porting.openoffice.org/freebsd/).

Gnome and KBD both have versions that run on FreeBSD.
