Hi Jonas, > >I have slowly become more and more intriqued by portable chess computers, mostly >from reading your posts on the subject and your passion for this ancient :) >technology. good! > >Now here is my question: > >I am looking for a strong (2100-2250 fide) portable chess computer that does not >cost a great deal (just to begin with). I would like such a unit to practise >against as my strength decreases when i play with "real" pieces and would like >to fix that. well this is not so easy because you want a portable while there were many tabletop dedicated computers that play above 2100 Elo,not many portables do for brand new computers the Novag Star Sapphire will meet your requirements but there are no pieces as it has LCD pieces it will play at around 2150 Elo for used portables i would mention the Mephisto Mobile with the MMV module this will play at just under 2000 Elo here is a photo of the unit: http://www.schachcomputer.at/meirom2.htm this shows the Mobile board with a different module(the Roma II) but the MMV looks the same these can be found on Ebay and generally sell for less then $150 Best Steve
