Interview of Kasparov after the match of Hoogovens(only the stretch where he speaks about computers), to read the complete interview goes to http://chess.lostcity.nl/Hoogovens/ ___Part of his success, Kasparov pointed out, was the result of his preparing for tournaments with his computer. "I like working on chess with the computer, " he said. "I can go into positions I wouldn't have dared play before. I do a lot of work and thanks to the computer, I just know the outcome of certain positions. In my game with Kramnik today, for instance, I knew beforehand that the ending was drawn. So I knew I could use this line. A few years ago, I didn't even dare take a look at this variation. If Black makes one little mistake he immediately loses because of the passed pawns. But now, I knew that Black would get sufficient counter chances in the ending. Without the machine, I would have been scared to play 12. ...e6 in my game against Shirov. Without the machine, my hand would be frozen. 12. ...e6 is against all the instincts. "With the computer, there are two possibilities. If you don't dictate your terms, you'll be demoralized. But you can also use it to improve your chess." Dictating his terms to the computer, Kasparov said, had improved his calculating skill: "I think I calculate much better now, and it also improved my geometry. " When a reporter asked whether this meant he was now ready for a revenge match against IBM's Deep Blue, the world champion replied that "under the proper conditions, I don't think the machine stands a chance." ___ Best Regards, Paulo Soares, from Brazil.
