This is only slighly off topic because it could affect the opening books of many chess programs. Most chess books give 1. e4 e5 2. Nc3 Nc6 3. f4 exf4 4. Nf3 g5 5. d4 g4 6. O-O!? as being somewhat favorable to white. I found that some chess programs have this line as well. But after 6. ... gxf3 7. Bc4 Nxd4! 8. Bxf4 the books that I have list only Qf6 for Black. But after 8. ... Bg7 Fritz will think all day and still think that White is busted. Any thoughts? I guess that the variation is a little deep for me. If white is really busted here then it casts doubt on playing the vienna gambit at all, because there are few good choices for white here. I should get me a copy of ECO. john coffey
