I bought a Compaq Presario S4020WM with an 2GHz Athlon XP 2400+ processor from
Walmart in the summer of 2003 for under $500. It has a 250 watt power supply,
and an easy to access computer case that I really like. Put in a Gig of RAM, a
couple of big hard drives, and case fans to keep it cool. Works good.

The first one I got was defective so had to take it back. That's one nice thing
about a local Walmart, they'll take anything back, no problems. I like buying
locally for that reason.
