Fischer's performance in 1992 showed that he was (then) barely in the top 100.
Nowadays, I think he would probably be rated in the mid or upper 2500s ...
hardly a match for any of the top GMs.  Karpov is not nearly as strong as he
used to be, but he would easily beat the Fischer of now, and Kasparov would
*destroy* the current Fischer, especially with his mental problems.  (Did
someone here really say that Kasparov was afraid of Fischer?  Do you really
believe that?)

My personal feeling is that, if he could have gotten his mental state OK and
practiced beforehand, Fischer would have beaten Karpov (barely) in the first
match (75) and then lost to Karpov 3 years later.  Just my feeling, but I have
heard Grandmasters express similar thoughts....
