Hi Steve, hi Dick, he needed about half an hour to arrive at $1200. This doesn't look to me as it was too emotional (but who knows). In particular since it is someone who has done 400+ transactions already and seems to have plenty of experience. Interesting is that he took $50 steps now (first it were $20). Since the increments above $1000 are at $25 it's obvious that the max bid of isousa at the moment is indeed $1217. The history now is 1217 isousa 1200 kqsierraplayer2 1150 kqsierraplayer2 1100 kqsierraplayer2 ... Better for iousa would have been if he had chosen 1190 (ie) since then the history would look like that (provided kq had chosen the same steps as above): 1200 kqsierraplayer2 1190 isousa 1150 kqsierraplayer2 1100 kqsierraplayer2 ... At the moment kq puts 1150 on the stake, he doesn't get the info he wishes since the next automatic step for iosa would be 1175. At the next step (1200) he gets above the first bidder. However, it's possible isousa increases now his own bid with the intention to demoralise his opponent. As Steve points out, if one wishes to avoid poker games as this one could bid within the last seconds... eBay 101 Regards, Martin On March 25, 2005 at 12:54:31, Steve B wrote: > >>Do you think it will get over $1,703, which somebody else bid a couple of months >>ago on a Phantom Eyeball? >:)) > >i never did like to bid early on an auction >just look at whats happening here >the lead bidder placed his bid with a max and someone else has all the time in >the world to chip away at it >whose to say if this lead bid was not placed that the second bidder would have >placed his own max bid much lower? >also, the second bidder probably got emotional about this and just pushed higher >and higher to see how high the lead would go > >i always bid at the closing seconds > >of course the price is the most important part of the bid but i find, overall >that bidding late is best > >others do think differently about this though.. > >never pays to get too emotional over chess computers > >Best >Steve
