Subject: Which chess engine is best for analysis of original positions?

I have noticed that the great majority of the tournaments held here have the
chess engines use some kind of opening book. What would happen if they did not
use any opening book? This would create a situation of "raw combat." That is,
I am sure many players use these programs to analyze all kinds of chess
positions and would like to know the programs' strengths in different positions.
Many times, opening books lead a program to head towards positions favorable to
its strengths and away from its weaknesses.
