As well as a great teacher, I have played him once years ago at a seattle championship tourney. I remember he won with a great score like 6 1/2 out of 7 but played a game with a weaky like me just for fun in the place where they were selling books. Of course a crowd gathered and for a moment I was a star as I tryed to sac a pawn. I played a bishops opening gambit but he did not accept the pawn and I lost quickly of lack of a plan. After the game I asked why he did not accept the gambit and he replyed he didn't know it very well!?! Wow I thought. Of the titled players I've known over the years he is by far the strongest and the nicest. What a strange combination?!?
