Terry, Thanks for the variations >[D] r1b1r1k1/1pn1qnbp/3p1pp1/pPp5/2PNPPP1/P1N1B1R1/3QB2P/3R3K w - - 0 1 > >1.Nf5 gxf5 2.gxf5 Kh8 3.b6 Na6 4.Rdg1 Rg8 5.Nd5 Qxe4+ 6.Bf3 Qe8 7.Qg2 >Qf8 8.Nxf6 Nh6 9.Nxg8 Nxf5 10.Rxg7 Nxg7 11.Bd2 Qxg8 12.Bc3 ++ [snip] >1.Nf5 gxf5 2.gxf5 Rd8 3.Rdg1 Ne8 4.Bh5 Kh8 5.Qg2 Qf8 6.Nd5 Rd7 7.Bd2 Ra7 >8.Bc3 b6 9.Qb2 Bb7 10.Rxg7 Nxg7 11.Rxg7 Ne5 12.Rxd7 Nxd7++ OK my point is that you need to search 19 ply (i.e. see Rxg7 in the second variation) before you see the payback. This is deep. Shredder 9 find Nf5 in the 10 the ply so I conclude that Shredder played Nf5 for reasons other than material gain - I call this a positional sacrifice - maybe you don't and that's fine. I also let Glaurung and Fruit search on the original position and neither had found Nf5 after 1 hour i.e. these two tactical monsters didn't see the move. >We could analize this to death, You can - and that's why Shredder's move after 2 secs is so impressive. Again - thanks for the variation, Regards, Steve
