Well there are two opinions I can give you here:

1. If you are a casual gamer, mainly use chess programs (3D boards) and such,
the NVidia 5700 will do you just fine. It is a good performer for the price
point. It will lack slightly in anything that is based on DX9.0. It will do just
fine with OpenGL, but then again so will your current gf2.

2. The Radeon is the better overall performer. It has much better DX support,
the drivers are more stable, and is plainly the best value for your money. This
is why I listed two Radeon cards over the NVidia.

I have had experience with the 5700 (and is the current card I gave my to
brother) when I upgraded my card a while ago. If you had posted this a week ago
I would have _given_ you a Radeon 9600 Pro as I just sold it for almost nothing
to my brother's friend. (He only paid because he absolutely insisted)

It was a good overall card but lacked the performance I wanted in newer games.

If I were you I wouldn't focus on "keeping it all together" and get the best
card for my money. That is the Radeon. Hands down, no question...

P.S - If Steve B happens to read this I am trying to dig my trunk out from the
enclosure at the botton of my mother's stairs. You are going to owe me SOOOO big
just to find out the names for these things.. :)

While most parents turn a child's room into a gym when they move out, they left
mine alone. They did however bury everything of mine so deep I might find Elvis
before I get to the trunk :)
