There is of course no way to know. But Karpov was coming on strong in 1975. He had a very different style than Fischer: he would put his opponents in a positional squeeze, and often won by turning a small advantage into an eventual endgame victory. He was almost inhumanly accurate and patient. So Fischer might have won, but I think it would have been hard. --Jon
