Well, in general I think there can still be done a lot of research on lot of openings (including improvements in some Eco line); although thats a lot of work ofcourse.. >>Most chess books give 1. e4 e5 2. Bc4 Nxd4! think that White is busted. Correct. I've done some analysis with 'my' full transpositional opening analysis program Bookbuilder (see website below) and found some interesting results (checked with Fritz3.2): Comment nr 1. : Nf3 seems week because of the danger of g4 (after g5). Therefore a better line, ie opening choice seems to be: 1. e4 e5 Nc3 Nc6 4. d4!, eg. with 4.. Qh4 5. Ke2 b7b6 6 Qd2 (or maybe also d3) etc. (and after 4.. g7g5 you can play eg. 5 Bc4 d6 6 Ng1e2!) Comment nr 2: *if* you nevertheless play above line, ie. 1. e4 e5 2. Nc3 Nc6 3. f4 exf4 4. Nf3 g5, then indeed 5 Bc4 seems better. But after 5.. g5g4 6. Nf3g1 ! is better than 0-0, eg. 6.. Qh4, 7. Kf1 Bc5 8 Qe1, and the queens are exchanged, which makes it playable for white, it seems. best regards, JefK. PS a NEW and much improved version of Bookbuilder 3.2 is now freely downloadable at http://superchess.com) ! Have fun :)
