I've included a section of the July 1998 list of 2480-2575 FIDE US players so that people could see who the potential GM may be (I did not have access to the January 99 list for the US). 11. Wolff, Patrick G 2575 12. Alburt, Lev O 2550 13. Dzindzichashvili, Roman 2545 14. Rohde, Michael A 2545 15. Fedorowicz, John P 2540 16. Kudrin, Sergey 2540 17. Sagalchik, Gennadij 2535 18. Serper, Grigory 2535 19. Schwartzman, Gabriel 2530 20. Dlugy, Maxim 2525 21. Ziatdinov, Raset 2525 22. Kavalek, Lubomir 2520 23. Stripunsky, Alexander 2520 24. Browne, Walter S. 2515 25. Sokolin, Leonid M. 2515 26. Ivanov, Alexander 2510 27. Brooks, Michael A 2505 28. Fishbein, Alexander 2505 29. Gurevich, Dmitry 2505 30. Ivanov, Igor V 2505 31. Guerrero, Gilbert 2500 32. Ashley, Maurice 2490 33. Palatnik, Semon 2490 34. Shaked, Tal 2490 35. Khmelnitsky, Igor N 2485 36. Waitzkin, Joshua 2480 My guess is that it would be one of the younger guys, possibly Shaked, Schwartzman, or Dlugy (in that order). I personally do not like both sides having 5 months to prepare for the match since I think it will dilute the chess (i.e. they will be in bizarre side variations as opposed to main lines), however, I understand the need for it. Good luck anyway with this. A lot of us are really interested and appreciate the work you are doing to get it going. Smiling makes the whole day brighter :) KarinsDad
