On the other hand, IBM does do a tremendous amount of research. It is possible that Deep Blue could be resurrected at some point, or even that it is operational right now and performing research. Do you know anyone who actually saw them take it apart? I think they might even play a match someday if they were somehow convinced that they would win a ten game match 10-0. The second match was in 97 and this is 99. People (general populace -- not chess folks) are already starting to forget what happened. As some point additional matches could possibly be beneficial.
