Subject: Dedicated corner (also for human solvers) -- mate in 1-7

Author: Martin Slowik

Hi all,

some as I find nice problems (the beauty of course depends also on your
taste...;) for you and/or your beeping chess partner.

Unless otherwise stated all times given refer to the corresponding mate level.
On these levels the evaluation function usually is simplified and the
selectivity at a minimum. So in some cases the infinite level can lead to
shorter solving times, however then it's also possible that a mate cannot be
found in the given number of moves. On the mate level the shortest possible mate
will be found (if you're patient enough...).

Solving Regards,
Martin

The next one is a special creation by Sam Loyd for the participants of the
international tournament in New York, 1893. The young Emanuel Lasker won all(!)
13 games and was ahead by 4.5 pts over the second. Of course the last little
hurdle wasn't a big problem too. Again Lasker managed this unusual task for a
tournament player in the shortest time of all participants. It's reported that
he presented the solution after 35 minutes. He needed five minutes less than
Pillsbury.

One problem here (for a human) is also the amount of possible black moves and
the different white responses. The longer mates below are usually easier for
humans and more difficult for the computers.
