i just played a game last night, and i'm wondering whether there are engines that find what i played: [D] 5r1k/5q1p/1p1p1rpb/p1p5/P1PpPP2/1P1P1RQP/3B1R1K/8 w - - 0 39 white is obviously better, since he still has some pawn pushes he might prepare, while black can just sit and wait. but how to proceed? in case you want to test yourself, i'll leave some white space here :-) and the solution is: white marches his king to the queenside before attacking with h4-h5. my opponent certainly didn't defend accurately, and i won easily with 39. Kg2 Qb7 40. Kf1 Qf7 41. Ke2 Qe8 42. Kd1 Qf7 43. Kc2 Qe6 44. Rf1 R8f7 45. h4 Bf8 46. R3f2 Be7 47. h5 gxh5 48. f5 +- when i leave fritz to analyze the position for a minute or two before 39. Kg2, it gives a slight advantage for white, by either doing nothing or pushing the h-pawn. the same before 40. Kf1, however, after 40....Qf7 it sees that white is now clearly better with Ke1/e2 (+0.56 for white within a minute). but are there any engines that can suggest this type of (standard!) maneuvre in the initial position? cheers martin
