I don't see the problem with the engine.
The author openly admitted of it being a clone. The users know it, and they have
the option of choosing to use it or not.

It's not a recent trend or anything. It's been like this for a long time.
Sjeng started as a clone of some other engine (orcourse it's not the case
anymore).
So have many others that I can't recall at this moment.

Unless the Author is claiming it to be original and going commercial with it,
it's not the end of the world, IMO.
