IE Hans Berliner was the world correspondence chess champion at one point, yet early versions of Cray Blitz used to 'roll him up' in blitz chess quite easily. To see the difference you should play him a 'correspondence game'. I remember an interesting pair of games years ago between IM Mike Valvo and Deep Thought II, (a program that is stronger than any other, even today). Mike played this two game match in (at the time) rec.games.chess, and he just rolled DT up into a small ball, and outplayed it badly. Yet at blitz (or even normal time controls) it would rip him just as easily.
