Any program that is SMP aware will be able to take advantange of a dual core system. If you favor a Windows OS, that also means you must have a Windows "Pro" Edition versus a "Home" edition. Dual Core will be faster than Hyper threading but slower than a true dual processor system. The OS itself will tale advantage of the dual core system , thus making it seem more responsive than a single CPU single core system.
