Hi odell, I seem to recall that after game two Kasparov set up this position on his Fritz PC software and left it to run overnight. Neither Fritz or indeed any of the then current software played Deep Blue's move, which only added fuel to Kasparov's accusation. Today it seems that the top PC programs running on modern hardware do indeed play Deep Blue's move within normal time limits. I feel that even today Deep Blue's tactical depth has yet to be attained, however what modern programs may lack in this area they most certainly make up for in their positional understanding and general chess knowledge. So I for one would tend to side with both Kasparov and Kramnik when they stated that their matches with Deep Junior and Deep Fritz were effectively against a stronger opposition. However, as to which program would win in a match with Deep Blue, Deep Fritz and Deep Junior - now that's tough to call. Terry
