I'm guessing but are you trying to install the engines while in Analysis mode?
Sometimes the engines try to initialize things (too) early - the delay and lack
of CPU power when in analysis mode can result in the GUI not getting the right
info in time - which makes it think it's not a UCI engine.  Try installing while
not in analysis mode.
