Computer Chess News Sheet. I spoke to Eric Hallsworth recently and he kindly gave me permission to use anything from his older publications. This is one of those positions that stick in the mind, in mine at least, for all this time. From January 1987 CCNS (Number 12) [D]8/6pk/7p/2R2p1q/pp4nP/6P1/P3Q2P/7K w - - 0 1 Eric attributes this to Graham White sometime in 1985. If you have even an old Richard Lang program in your dedicated machine it should find it in a little over a minute. Anything much else from then until about R30 time, forget it. If I remember correctly even the first Pentium based software (Fritz, Rebel etc.) will struggle with this. Cheers. Ray.
