Because of an annoying limitation in the tools used to create my hexagonal chess program Scatha, the program will only work in the exact Mac OS version in which it was compiled. A few days ago, Apple released Mac OS X 10.3.9, a free update for all users of 10.3. I have now recompiled Scatha for the new OS version, and replaced the binary on my Scatha page with the new one. The URL is: http://www.math.uio.no/~romstad/glaurung/glaurung.html Apart from the recompilation and a new (ugly) application icon, there are no changes in the program. For those who missed my original announcement of Scatha a couple of weeks ago: Scatha is a free hexagonal chess program for Mac OS X. The current version is very rudimentary and does not contain many features. Nevertheless, it is fun to play against, and a great tool for learning the game. Everybody who knows the rules of classical chess should be able to learn hexagonal chess after playing with Scatha for a couple of minutes. When you click on a piece, Scatha will highlight the squares the piece can move to. There are several "easy levels" which should give even a complete beginner a good chance to beat the program. I hope some adventurous Macintosh users will want to give it a try. As always, user feedback is welcome. I would be particularly happy if somebody could help me create a better application icon (I have no artistic skills). Tord
