But they are very nice programs, aren't they. And strong, I suppose you'd agree
with me?  Crafty is very, very strong and crafty (cunning). And at blitz it is
awesome.  However, Comet, Gromit and Phalanx are surely just as strong if not
stronger on equal hardware and longer time controls ,(just look up the standings
of the Winboard tourney at 40/40 on my site, and go over the games).  Crafty
seems to have been optimised for fast time controls on the servers.  It is a
great program, lots of features, state-of-the-art search techniques, etc. But,
do not underestimate any of the three freeware programs I mentioned. Comet is
Crafty's Angstgegner (fearful opponent) at longer time controls... I've had lots
of evidence for this. Comet has such an enterpising style too, much more so than
Crafty. Then you have Gromit and Phalanx that seem to be just as dangerous for
Crafty at longer tc's...
