The scene will split up. There is a development into the direction of a 32 stone table base, providing huge opening libraries and end game data, of course having high importance for analysis and theoretical thoughts. But because there is hardly something less intelligent than to use gigantic looking up tables, the development of chess programs on restricted means will become most important. Intelligence is found where in a RESTRICTED situation answers to problems should be calculated, quickly and with high quality. I remind on my suggestion to limit the persistant data (incl. executable) to 1/4 MB, messured in a compressed form to make it unnecessary to implement hidden compressing inside. Like the Formula One such a restriction would enable a better competition of ideas trying how to use limited ressources most intelligent. Reinhard.
