The scene will split up. There is a development into the direction of a 32 stone
table base, providing huge opening libraries and end game data, of course having
high importance for analysis and theoretical thoughts. But because there is
hardly something less intelligent than to use gigantic looking up tables, the
development of chess programs on restricted means will become most important.
Intelligence is found where in a RESTRICTED situation answers to problems should
be calculated, quickly and with high quality. I remind on my suggestion to limit
the persistant data (incl. executable) to 1/4 MB, messured in a compressed form
to make it unnecessary to implement hidden compressing inside. Like the Formula
One such a restriction would enable a better competition of ideas trying how to
use limited ressources most intelligent.
