I also have problems with Gandalf under Arena and not using tablebases. Another problem is it plays book moves that I have never seen it play in other interfaces, and these openings are really weak compared to what I normally see. Dan Wulff's book is excellent, yet under Arena Gandalf just plays wild... I primarily use the always sturdy, never problematic Winboard for play and have _never_ seen the type of problems I get in Arena. I use Arena for many engines, and usually have no problems other than minor ICS bugs, and a general dislike for the size of the ICS window. Some have this problem and some don't. I have discussed it on FICS/ICC many times with other users, and overall it is really 50/50 whether people have the problem. I fired off an email to Steen Suurballe a while ago, and as of 3 minutes ago have not heard a response. Peter
