I think most of the comments posted are right on the mark. It is unlikely IBM would bite on such a project. For DB, they did _everything_. Hardware. Software. Etc. Supplying hardware only to a project outside of their control would not be nearly as attractive, because there is always the "well, the hardware sucks but the software was really good." For DB, that could not be used since IBM did everything... We will see DB-level NPS within a couple of more years. In 1997 I predicted that DB was 10 years ahead of the micros in terms of speed. By 2007 I believe we will catch up, although whether we do the things in our software eval they did in their hardware will be an issue...
