Actually, in case you planned to participate in both events, the chosen date has
some advantages as well. Cheapest connection to Iceland from Germany is from
Frankfurt(Hahn), that is very close to Mainz, so you can board the plane right
after you won the trophy :).

And for working people it makes sense to have them one after another to reduce
the amount of holidays needed.
