The best I think is Chess Genius, it's strong at full strength and have levels
to 'dumb' it down. Also good pgn-viewer. ( http://www.chessgenius.com/ ).

The best freeware is probably Crafty with Winboard ( http://www.yipton.net/ ).

You can also use Java-chess program for the mob. phone like Lokasofts program
found at http://www.lokasoft.com/mobile_chesspartner .
