You must be waving magic dust on your program. Here are some results from my program on the 11 positions in the nolot test. The null move doesn't seem to have tremendous advantage, although in several cases it was substantially better. Thrice the null move took more time than without. I ran each position for one minute on my P233, and recorded the times for the last completed ply. No hash tables, but pawn hash was 1MB. Incidentally, the program didn't get one position right, with or without null move. Ply Time NPS 6 32.300 121091 //with null move 6 27.960 119934 //without 6 15.600 133338 6 19.440 133619 7 4.120 123348 7 11.310 200725 6 8.410 136682 6 17.030 133218 6 4.890 127703 6 19.770 132613 6 10.100 121184 6 14.170 130105 6 17.360 144161 Rcc1 //only time they differed 6 26.860 141855 Rc2 //in move choice 6 6.640 127021 5 4.010 135122 6 9.440 114160 6 16.530 126178 6 8.630 115870 6 19.890 115424 7 24.880 134636 7 14.500 169952 I'll continue working. maybe eventually I'll get heavenly inspiration and get some huge gains with the null move....
