In 1890 Luis Torres y Quevedo built a machine that automatically played a king and rook endgame against king from any position. Not bad for 115 years ago! The challenge I propose is to duplicate this result in software in as succinct a manner as possible. The only restricion is that is must always find a way a mate, but not necessarily do so optimally. Any takers?
