As far as the pentium 3 is concern it will have no effect at all since this cpu
is nothing more than a pentium 2 with special 3d instructions which are of
course completely useless with chess playing programs.(But expect an increase in
speed.500 mhz). The
k6-3(which is late as every new amd cpu is)is another story.256kb of cache will
be added directly on the chip.Now that will increase the speed of the cpu by a
good margin.Cache is fairly important with chess playing programs.But the k6-3
will be limited at 450mhz.
The k7 will begin at 500mhz but will
have a bus speed of 200mhz.That's the one everybody is waiting for....
