The Fredkin Prize It was a three stage prize. The first for the author of the first computer to achieve a master chess rating. Awarded to Belle in 1983. The second for the first program to produce a 2600 performance rating over 25 consecutive games against grandmaster players in long (40 moves in 2 hours or slower) games. Awarded to deep thought in the early 1990's. The final stage was to beat the world champion in a match. Awarded to IBM in 1997. "The Computers Won" all three stages.. Congratulations to the winners!
